Choosing the Right Carpet for Your Room

It is something that we rarely pay any attention to – choosing the right carpet for our bedroom. Carpeting is one of the most difficult components of decorating because there are so many decisions to make, all while considering – the style of the carpet, the fiber type, the pattern, quality, and the color. If you are choosing a rug for your room, then consider these points before making the purchase.

Set a budget – The first thing that you have to consider is the budget – ask yourself how much you want to invest in this and set out on the buying adventure. Remember, a carpet’s price depends on the square footage of the room, so be sure to measure your space before going to the store. If you have a large master bedroom, you may need to look for less costly options. If you have a bedroom that is smaller in size, then choose something that will be effective as you don’t have ample space to cover. Once you have a firm budget in mind, then you will save time at the store because you will know which carpets you can afford and which is more identifiable to the highest quality options within your price range.

Decide on the fiber – When it comes to carpeting materials, opt for the natural or synthetic fibers. Wool is an ideal option for bedroom carpeting since it has a soft, luxurious feel. As a natural fiber, however, it tends to be the most costly type of carpeting. A more budget-friendly carpet is the synthetic carpets as they are more realistic options, especially when you have a large bedroom. As for nylon, it is typically the most costly synthetic carpet because it has the softest feel. Polyester carpeting is less expensive than nylon and is non-allergenic. You are thus making it an ideal choice if you suffer from allergies or asthma. As polyester is an inexpensive material it sometimes has a problem with shedding or pilling.

Make sure your carpet is the right size – If your bed is against the wall, it should have a clear 36 inches on all sides for you to make your way around it. Within that border, measure the length and width of where you imagine you will place your new rug. Layout a masking tape or a bed sheet at least 2 feet beyond the edge of your bed, so you feel like you are scooting right into your fuzzy slippers when you throw your legs over the side. If you have a trunk or bench at the end of your bed, then add a foot to your rug’s length.

Pay attention to texture – Remember, the carpeting in a room should be as soft and comfortable underfoot as possible, so choosing the right carpet is essential. The right texture can give the bedroom a more attractive appearance, so the aesthetics also matter. Velvet carpeting has a soft, sumptuous feel, so it ideal for a bedroom as well.

Get the right color – A neutral colored carpet, like tan, brown, or gray, is the safest option since it will work with any wall or décor colors. It is best to avoid carpets that are extremely light like white or beige because they don’t hide dirt as easily as darker carpeting. So if you have more colorful tastes, don’t be afraid to try a bold-colored carpet in your bedroom.

So now you are ready to buy your carpet!
