Running out of space in your kitchen drawers? Why not put a utensil bar on the wall? Decorative and practical, the utensil bar allows you to have your kitchen utensils within easy reach. Available in various sizes, colours and materials, it can be matched with cabinet door handles for an aesthetic look. Installing a kitchen utensil bar is a simple operation, the only difficulty is to lay it straight!

Here’s how to install a utensil bar in the kitchen.

1. Locate the ideal place in the kitchen to install the utensil bar

Before you install the utensil bar in your kitchen:

    – Choose the right place to put it. Place your bar near your cooktops.

    – Once you’ve found the perfect spot for your bar, ensure enough space between the bar and the countertop for all your utensils to hang.

Note: If your bar is to be placed on tile, it is best to drill at the tile joints. Keep this in mind when locating the bar’s installation location.

2. Mark the location of your holes

Important: there are better solutions than glue to attach a tool bar. Although it may seem quick and easy, adhesion to tile is uncertain and, over time, the bar may break under the weight of the utensils.

Check the packaging of your utensil bar as it may have an installation template on the back.

If there is a template with the utensil bar

    – Place the template on the wall where the bar will be.

    – Check that it is horizontal with a level.

    – Tape the template to the wall.

If there is no template with the utensil bar

    – Position the utensil bar with its supports on the wall.

    – Place a spirit level on top.

    – When the bar is horizontal, mark with a pencil the location of the holes to be drilled through the supports.

3. Drill the holes

To drill the holes:

    – With a drill and a concrete drill bit, drill your wall on the marks on the template or on the marks made with a pencil on the wall.

Tip: When drilling a tiled wall, tape the holes to protect the tile and prevent the drill bit from slipping. Remove the drill function from the drill and drill at low speed.

    – Remove the template if one is present.

    – Insert wall plugs suitable for the type of wall: solid wall plugs or Molly plugs for plasterboard walls.

4. Install the utensil bar in your kitchen

To install the utensil bar in your kitchen:

    – Start by loosely screwing in one of the brackets.

    – Do the same for the second bracket.

    – Place the spirit level on the bar.

    – Finish screwing while checking the horizontality of the bar with the level.

Now all you have to do is install your kitchen utensils on the bar!
